So far, I have to say that raising kids is one of the most rewarding, yet challenging, experiences in my life. As a parent who loves to travel, I naturally want to share this passion with my children. But is it really worth the effort?! After a few trips under our belt, the answer is a resounding yes. Raising kids by travel isn’t just about seeing new places; it’s about equipping them with life skills, resilience, and a broadened worldview. Here are just 4 reasons why.
- Instilling a Love for Travel and Exploration
What I want for my kids from traveling is everything I love about it! The excitement of discovering a new city, the joy of meeting people from different backgrounds, and the thrill of trying something new for the first time. These experiences are invaluable, and passing them on to my children is a gift that keeps on giving.
- Learning Flexibility and Adaptability
Traveling is where I learned flexibility, adaptability, and gained confidence in changing circumstances. There’s nothing like a canceled flight or a missed connection to teach you how to think on your feet. When kids experience these challenges, they learn to roll with the punches and adapt to new situations—a skill that will serve them well throughout their lives.
- Developing Street Smarts
Navigating unfamiliar environments helps children develop street smarts. Whether it’s figuring out how to use public transportation in a foreign city or understanding how to stay safe in a crowded marketplace, travel teaches kids to be aware of their surroundings and make smart decisions.
- Gaining Cultural Appreciation
Traveling exposes children to a wide variety of cultures, languages, and traditions. By visiting different places, they gain an appreciation for the diversity of the world and learn to respect and celebrate differences. This exposure helps them grow into open-minded and empathetic individuals.
To be continued…there are so many positive outcomes to travel with your kids and these are just a few. If you chose even one as your WHY then it would be easy to make the leap and plan the trip.
